lost and off the map

line

Over whizzing mopeds and rain, I plead, “Hotel Paris?” Response: a blank stare. Away from my melting map, he points toward droplets racing down my face. “You are here,” he says, walking away.

  1. Yes, Abby! I love it! Makes me want to get lost, in the rain, on my way the the Hotel Paris. Excellent, excellent stuff! You are good at this.

Thanks, Dunce Two! Everyone should get lost in the rain every once in awhile. Its a very humbling experience.

  4. Rain always wants to blind us. Typical Frenchman’s response to a tourist.

  6. I was lost in the rain in Seoul once. I wasn’t fortunate enough to have a melting map, though. Just a rudimentary understanding of Hangul and two little boys who thought it was the funnest day ever. Memories! Love the melting map, though. Brilliant imagery.

  7. This was my absolute and hands-down favorite of all of the submissions so far. I really enjoyed reading this, it is such a wonderful, well-written little vignette, such a beautiful little snapshot of one moment in time…I really loved it. So beautiful. This is perfect. The imagery here is so well-done, I could picture everything here so well, down to the characters in the story. You managed to squeeze a full story into 33 words. Bravo! Well-done! I would vote this one as the winner for sure, if we could vote for the winner this time around, that is…I only wish that we could vote, because this one really deserves to be the winner this time around. Your entry blows all of the other entries out of the water. They can’t even compare, in my own humble opinion…That’s just how I feel. Thank you so much for sharing this here with all of us, and I look forward to reading more Trifecta entries from you! :)

  9. Fran

I can imagine the “lost” staring slack-jawed after the less-than-helpful guidance. Good job with this weekend’s prompt!

  10. I hate being lost.
    I hate being wet.
Being soaked and lost where I couldn’t speak the language? I’d have sobbed.
